Inspiring Student-led Environmental Action
The Green Student Program (GSP) is an initiative by Team Illuminate designed for high schools students to foster deeper knowledge on and concern for their environment. It is designed to inspire student-led action in mitigating environmental issues in communities and schools, by empowering students to know and supporting them to act.
The Green Student Program empowers Nigerian teenagers to understand environmental challenges, discover opportunities for change and develop solutions that make a difference in their schools and communities.
The Green Student Program brings environmental learning to life through two connected experiences; the Green Student Workshop & the Green Student Fellowship.
An annual gathering of high school students and teachers to spark curiosity, expand environmental knowledge and inspire immediate action. The Workshop is designed to make environmental education engaging, accessible, and actionable. Students do not just listen to speakers. They participate, ask questions, exchange ideas, build skills, and discover new ways to contribute to their communities.
The Green Student Fellowship supports teenagers who are ready to take their learning further and turn their ideas into action. Through a structured fellowship experience, selected students receive practical training, mentorship, peer support and guidance to develop environmental solutions that respond to challenges in their schools and communities. They learn to identify problems, develop ideas, work with others and bring their projects to life. Selected projects can also receive seed funding to support implementation.
Through the Green Student Program, we are working towards a generation of informed, ingenious and action-oriented young people who see environmental challenges not through a lens of worry, but as opportunities to learn, innovate, collaborate and lead change.

Workshop
An annual gathering of high school students (aged 13-19) and teachers to spark curiosity, expand environmental knowledge, and inspire immediate action.

Fellowship
An 8-week mentorship program for 20–30 selected fellows each year providing deeper learning and hands-on project design experience with resources to implement a school or community-based project.

Council
A team of passionate young changemakers serving as an advisory board to the program to ensure that it reflects the real needs, voices, and ideas of young people.
